After School workouts story

After School workouts going to 2 days a week

After school workouts switched things up. Instead of going Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and training in APC every day of the week, workouts are now Monday and Wednesday after school only along with APC remaining the same.

Coach Jerrod Watson explained the reason for the switch.

“There were lots of reasons. One of the main reasons was overtraining. I was very worried about that. Number two was to get people to go with their sport coaches and get coaches more time to work, and then number three was to get people to go out for multiple sports,” he said.

Out with the old and in with the new for the rest of this year at least.

“We will stay like this for at least the rest of this year, and then Mr. Irwin and I will re-evaluate and see if we liked it or not and then go from there next year,” Coach Watson said.

He explained how things are going to work with the new plan.

“We will do what we usually do on Mondays, an auxiliary lift to what we do in class, and then on Wednesday, we will do speed and change of direction work right after school from 2:05-2:45,” he said.

Students talked about their thoughts on the switch.

“My opinion on the change of going from three days a week to two days a week is that I like it, I think it is a lot better from a recovery standpoint, and it will help have more gas in the tank for APC and allow us to work harder overall. I am sad that we will not be able to get that massive pump from Tuesday after school and from the 4 quarter program, but for the most part, I like it,” freshman Chris Bassler said.

Junior Paige Spate expressed her thoughts.

“I like the change. It is just different. We have been doing the same thing since my freshman year, and it is a good change of pace. It is also giving me the ability to recover and not be dead sore every day,” Spate said.
