White Mamba’s reign

Laughter, friendships and overall enjoyment is not uncommon at GHS, but one of the highest concentrations has happened during Wednesday intramurals.

The season actually came to an end with a White Mambas victory over Purple Power 35-28. White was always in the lead, and the first half looked like utter devastation. The second half began to look up for the Purple Power as they cut the lead down to 2, but they were unable to take the lead. The quick play style was unlike anything Purple had seen before. White matched against Purple, and their better play style, scorers and ability to read a defense led to their overwhelming victory.

But, actual play-offs began on Feb. 1. On the right side of the bracket, the 4-0 Green Beans took down 0-4 Black Magic 20-15. The 3-1 Purple Power beat the 1-3 Blue Ballers with a final score of 12-11 after overtime play, solidifying the conference championship between Green and Purple. The left side of the bracket’s semi-final would be White Mambas vs. Orange Cheetos after 4-0 White Mambas took down 0-4 Yellow Flash and the 1-2 Orange Cheetos beat the 2-1 Red Flashes 18-10.

The Cheetos vs. Mambas game was excellent in addition to being a toss-up until the Mambas claimed a win by 4. While their game did not end as badly as Power vs. Green Beans, it was expected to get tense since the winner of this game went to the championship.
Even with the devastating loss to the Mambas earlier in the season, Orange was not fazed by the upcoming challenge, and junior Aiden Kidwell described that passion.

“To my knowledge, their best player would not be playing the next week, so I think we had an even higher chance of winning. I think our team matched up perfectly even with their starting squad. We were talking, and we’re not about to go in this game scared. We knew our worth, and we’re willing to prove it,” Kidwell said.

The Green team also had high hopes for this game as they had already defeated Purple once before and planned on doing it again.
“Honestly, we didn’t plan on changing anything about our play style in this game. Purple had always been a chippy, team and we planned on using that against them. We’re definitely going to become a little more aggressive and try to get more shots up when we had the ball,” junior Brett Odgers said.

The conference final between Purple Power and Green Beans was surely one for the books; during their previous meeting, there has been some hostility. There had been a dispute over the rules, both teams were chippy, and the game went down to the last minute. This last altercation lit some fire under both teams.
