Halloween brings back memories of costumes and candy.
“My favorite memory from Halloween as a kid was definitely getting ready and going trick or treating because me and my brothers had a lot of fun spending time together,” junior Gabi Xochitecatl said.
There are many traditions about Halloween to love.
“I always liked getting candy and competing to get the best bag was the best part. The competition was seeing how much candy we got and comparing who got the most and that’s who won the competition,” senior Penelope Erickson said.
Many people have their own norms for the holiday.
“After me and my brother got trick or treating, we would always get to the house and dump our bags and count every single piece to see who won and got the most so we tried to stay out as long as we could. I still do it sometimes with my friends, but it wasn’t a tradition for them so they don’t understand and kind of look at me weird,” Xochitecatl said.
Halloween is a good night for people to enjoy the different costumes.
“My favorite costume that I dressed up as was when I was in preschool. I dressed up as a gypsy. It might be a little controversial now. I don’t really know the history behind them, but I didn’t care because my costume was really cool and I loved it so much. I think if you want to dress as something for Halloween, then you should do it no matter what it is because that is the point of Halloween,” Erickson said.
Halloween can be more than just getting candy.
“I love decorating my house, and we used to have these really big skeletons, and they looked really cool in the yard and the house. Now, I kind of take over the decorations and I have a lot of fun with it and make it look really cool,” sophomore Maddy Cravens said.
Usually, Halloween falls on a school night.
“My usual Halloween schedule is to get up and go to school, and usually school is pretty fun that day. Then, my friends come over, and we all get ready and do makeup, photos, eat snacks, then go out trick or treating,” Xochitecatl said.
The holiday is not for everyone.
“On Halloween, I usually just stay home and play video games because I didn’t go trick or treating as a kid because I never liked Halloween. It is boring and just not my style. I never dressed up, and I don’t like any holidays. If I were to go trick or treating, I would dress up as a Canada Goose because they are my favorite animal,” sophomore Sinclair Potter said.
Costumes can be a big tradition.
“My favorite costume was a snow leopard because it was a really cute costume. I looked really cute in it because I was still young,” Cravens said.
It is a controversial topic about how old is too old for Halloween.
“No one is ever too old to go trick or treating, and I would still be going if I didn’t have a Halloween party to go to. Maybe 17 years old is cutting it close to actually going trick or treating, but we are never ever too old to dress up and have fun,” Xochitecatl said.
