With new teachers come new expectations.
“I moved to Greenwood because I was moving houses with my girlfriend, and she is from here, so it was easier. I chose to work here because my interview went great, and as I was walking through the halls and talking with everyone the vibes were just great. I knew it was going to be a good fit,” Mr. Wes Melonson, math teacher, said.
GHS staff added many new staff members this year, and most of them said the same thing: that they loved the school as soon as they came.
“I moved to Greenwood because I wanted a smaller school because my last school was too big and there were behavior issues over there. I thought I just didn’t want to teach anymore but I’m glad I moved because it’s closer and I love the kids and the atmosphere here,” Mrs. Autumn Pasa, Spanish teacher, said.
Another repeating comment involved the Woodman atmosphere.
“I used to teach at Mooresville, and I chose to move here because I love the community, and I have some old friends that worked here. They loved it here,” Mrs. Melissa Burger, science teacher, said.
The community seems to be welcoming and diverse.
“I am really excited to get to know and build connections with all the kids and see how they develop. I am also one of the new football coaches, so I am super excited for that to start with all Friday nights. I think it’s going to be a pretty good season so I’m ready for that to start,” Mr. Melonson said.
There are many high expectations for the year, including sports. There are many fun assignments and events planned, and it will be a great way to show new staff members what Greenwood is about.
“There aren’t very many differences between the high school and middle school, so it wasn’t a huge adjustment. It also is better hours for me with my four kids, and this job allows me to be more available for them and their schedules,” Ms. Cassandra Hockersmith, English teacher, said.
Not all new staff members are completely new to Greenwood.
“I was ready to come back to teaching, and I wanted change so I thought the school would be a good place to start. (Mrs. Laura) Stadtfeld was telling me about this position that opened up. It is exactly what I wanted,” Ms. Hockersmith said.
