Former GHS student-athlete and friend of many, Grace Nuhfer, made a name for herself at the 2024 Paralympics.
The staff hosts many at GHS who praise the former Woodman swimmer. The last staff members to share time at GHS with Nuhfer graduated this past May, but a small collection of former swimmers remember their time with her as a positive.
For students who are relatively unfamiliar with Nuhfer’s talents, her placement was a surprise. Nuhfer took home the silver medal in the 100m Butterfly final and placed 6th, 8th, and 8th in her other events.
We think it is great that a GHS athlete has reached that level of competition. To our knowledge, Nuhfer is the first to reach the olympics. To us, her story is inspirational and shines a positive light on Greenwood. It says a lot for someone that has faced adversity and had to overcome challenges to reach her goals. As a staff, we want to celebrate her success.
The athlete trained against athletes with no disabilities her whole life. Nuhfer swam with the Greenwood travel program, the Gators, and for middle school and high school. Students looked up to Nuhfer as a great vocal leader she set an example that helped mold the younger swimmers into stronger people and athletes.
As a staff,we feel like this is not something Greenwood locals should take lightly. It is the first time an athlete has reached this stage, and one of the best people to come through greenwood athletics was the one representing us. No one is a better example of the Woodmen Way.
