A new soda shop comparable to Dunkin, Seven Brews, and even Starbucks has recently opened in Greenwood.
The new shop, Swig, located near Count Line and Emerson, boasts many different flavor combinations of ‘Dirty Soda’, which is a soda base mixed with add-ins, such as half and half or coconut.
The concept originated in Utah, where people substituted coffee for soda for religious purposes. Nicole Tanner and her husband founded Swig in April 2010 in St. George, Utah. Since then, the chain has spread to states in the lower Midwest to the south and now Indiana.
I decided to try five different drinks offered; Life’s a Peach, Shark Attack, Happy Camper, ‘Buttery Beer, and Pink Bahamas. After waiting in the abnormally long line for 30 minutes, the woman taking my order informed me that they were out of multiple bases. Because of this, I had to substitute them for something else. Although I had to substitute Happy Camper for Ring King, Buttery Beer for Cherry Bomb, and Pink Bahamas for Texas Tab, my order did not disappoint.
My favorite of the five was Life’s a Peach. It had a Dr. Pepper base with vanilla, peach, and half and half mixed in. It tasted very smooth, like a peachy Dr. Pepper. My least favorite was Texas Tab. Even though it had both coconut and vanilla added in to the Dr. Pepper, it tasted like watered-down Coke.
Swig also offers a limited snack menu. I only was able to try the pretzel bites, and I was not left disappointed. They were better than the average concession stand pretzel. I would highly recommend getting them with the strawberry cream cheese as it adds to the already buttery flavor. They also offer a diverse selection of cookies, including their seasonal pumpkin chocolate chip mini cookies.
Only the drive-thru being open and the extremely long lines overshadowed the anticipation of trying this new trending establishment in Greenwood. However, with the help of the kind staff, I was able to have an enjoyable experience. They went above and beyond to provide a positive and easy experience to customers and problem-solving when they ran out of numerous drink bases.
Overall, I would recommend Swig to anyone trying to find a diverse selection of drinks other than coffee. The kind staff, quality service, and tasty treats made this an amazing experience.
