The choir showed off their vocal abilities at the Folk and World Choir Concert.
Being a part of a choir is so amazing that people forget how much time they have left there.
“Choir has been a bittersweet experience because Rhapsody has been preparing some amazing songs for this concert that are great folk and world music. It is also crazy and quite sad to think that this is my last first concert ever with me being a senior. It really puts in perspective on how fast time is moving,” senior Alissa Emkes said.
The dedication of the choir members was evident.
“The couple months we have spent on these songs were very rewarding to hear the end result of all the hard work we put in,” sophomore Anne Chrisman said.
The highlights of a choir performance can be different for everyone.
“The most rewarding part of the choir concert is the idea of being able to perform beautiful songs to so many people who are so happy to hear us sing,” freshman Grace Grabbe said.
Self-doubt is a struggle many deal with but having a good support system helps.
“The most rewarding experience for me is to know that if I feel like I did not perform my best I have other people in the choir that will uplift me, which are also the people that I will be able to talk about choir-related topics,” Emkes said.
The behind-the-scenes work for a choir performance is nice to hear, but what about what actually happened at the concert?
“In Revery, which is a beginner choir, we sang different cultural and jazz songs, Too Darn Hot and Ose Shalom, which are both of my favorite songs we have sang,” Gabbe said. “In Rhapsody, which is an advanced chamber choir, we sang all sorts of different languages and cultures, like my favorite Bring Me Little Water Silvy,” Emkes said.
The choir concert is a memorable experience for these choir members.
“I felt grateful for the opportunity to witness such a wonderful performance. I knew that I would carry the memory of the choir concert with me for a long time, reminding me of the joy and beauty that music brings to me,” Emkes said.
