Finals time is here again and students are preparing to get the A.
Finals can be stressful, but they do not need to be that way with the proper study techniques.
Teachers have their thoughts on how students should study. Christian Cruse math teacher has his thoughts on study techniques for students.
“I want my students to actually study and ask good questions and pay attention during reviews in class. I also recommend looking back through past notes and tests,” Mr. Cruse said
However, proper studying techniques can change base on the different ways students process information. Some students study through straight memorization or online websites that generate quizzes.
“I usually make Quizlets over important vocab and information in my class. Then, I like to go through the Quizlet and write it down because when you write it down it is easier to remember,” sophomore JN Burlaos said.
But everybody studies differently, as freshman Madi Blake explained her method.
“I normally study for tests by reviewing my notes and rewriting them down in a notebook. When I rewrite them, I make it fun by doing different colors with different highlighters. I feel that the different colors help me remember because it can be fun to use different sorts of colors,” Blake said.
Any study technique has its benefits, as studying can lead to higher grades and better success rates on finals.
“I found out the hard way through my first final I had in Mr. Mackie’s class that I needed to start studying before a test or big quizzes because it benefits my scores and also I’m able to retain more information on what we went over during the semester in each class,” Burlaos said.
Through studying, Burlaos scored a 1270 on his PSAT. But nobody witnesses more success in those who study than teachers do.
“I see success in those who take advantage of their opportunity. Those who think they can cram right before the final tend to not do well,” Mr. Cruse said.
Freshmen who have their first time taking finals in their high school careers also may decide to change their study habits.
“If I were to change my study habits for finals, I would probably take more time studying and fully go through my studies. I think I have a pretty decent study habit, but I do believe that I could do teachers’ Quizlets before finals and also go more in-depth into the subjects,” Blake said.
