The soft drink shop Swig, located off Emerson Ave, has been open for several months but still manages to rake in customers, constantly holding lines wrapping around the building and into the parking lot.
The location is drive-thru only, and I was greeted with a line that stretched the length of the building. During the winter, the place is terribly inefficient and slow as it is too cold for workers to take orders carside. Customers have to wait to order and pick up at the same window causing an unnecessary wait. It took around 45 minutes to move through the line before I was able to place my order. I ordered one of their regular sodas, a refresher, as well as a seasonal drink.
The first drink was the raspberry dream. It has a base of Dr. Pepper with coconut cream and raspberry purée. This drink was not horrible; The coconut was overpowering and in general not for me. I think the raspberry was a nice touch, and I would recommend it to anyone who does not mind coconut.
The second drink was a strawberry breeze refresher. I expected a refreshing drink, hence the name, but was met with the overwhelming flavor of their coconut cream. If around Swig and wanting a refresher, I would recommend skipping the line and driving to Starbucks.
The third and final drink I tried was the Jolly Elf. The seasonal drink has a base of Mountain Dew and a mix of passionfruit, strawberry puree, fresh orange, and coconut cream. There was nothing Christmassy about the drink, but it was a great combination of fresh flavors and was easily my favorite of the three. The coconut cream was not overpowering, and for that reason, I think I would continue to order the Mountain Dew-based sodas.
Considering all of the drinks on the menu, not just the three I tried, I believe there is a great selection of products for any customer. Their beverages are based on Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, Diet Coke, Coke, Sprite, Rootbeer, and lemonade. Given this and that their prices are fair, I definitely recommend giving this place a try. Some people believe the hype and long lines are too much for a place selling exclusively soft drinks, but I believe it offers a unique product and is worth trying if in the area.
