Every second Sunday of February, the largest sporting event in America occurs. The Super Bowl is the battle for the Lombardi Trophy between the two best teams in the NFL, and this year, the winner of the Lombardi will be…
The Philadelphia Eagles, for the second time in the last three years, the Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs, who are making their 3rd appearance in a row. The Chiefs had a pretty easy road to the big game, having the first-round bye, beating an injured Texans, and striking down Josh Allen and his Bills. This year, the Eagles have made the most electric run in the playoffs, capping it off with an impressive win against the Commanders 55-23 due to an explosive game from their explosive running back, Saquon Barkley. Barkley this year has been excellent, and if he can take that into the big game, the Chiefs will be no match.
There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Barkley is the star of this Eagles offense, and rightfully so, the 27-year-old rushed for over 2,000 yards in the regular season and put up a hat trick in the NFC championship game—capping a 32-point lead over the Commanders. In his first year as a bird, Barkley has single-handedly put his name into the MVP race and solidified his name in the record books. The Eagle’s securing the “injury-prone” veteran was seen as a questionable move in the Philly front office, but after his performance this year, those naysayers have been silenced.
Alongside Barkley is an offense star-studded with receivers like DeVonta Smith, AJ Brown, and quarterback Jalen Hurts. Jalen Hurts and his running capabilities make enemy defenses play the guessing game, putting stress on linebackers and Defensive coordinators alike. AJ Brown marking the exterior of the Eagle’s offense makes him an elite deep threat, and the quick and spry rabbit of Smith sticking to the slot leaves defenses in the dust.
Ignoring the offense, the Eagle’s defense gets most teams worrying. With D-linemen Jalen Carter clogging up the middle and Zach Baun stopping anything that gets through. The Eagles are often remarked as the best run defense and will hopefully maintain that in the Super Bowl. Past the front seven, the two “brothers” in Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship keep everything in front of them in the defensive pass game.
Because of the Eagle’s all-star cast, the Eagles will hoist the Lombardi on Feb. 9. They will outplay the Chiefs in every facet of the game and if they can put the Mahomes magic to bed they will beat them.
