Certain musicians like Tyler Childers, have revived Folk music and introduced newer generations to the genre. Folk music is a genre that has defined previous generations with its beautiful lyrics and eccentric melodies. Artists have broken through certain barriers placed on country music artists.
Senior Kenzie McAte has fallen in love with folk because of musicians like Tyler Childers. She has listened to him for years.
“I started listening in like eighth grade, so like five or six years ago, mostly because of my grandpa,” McAtee said.
McAtee listens to most of his songs, but one has a special place in her heart. She listens to it consistently.
“Follow You To Virgie’ because me and my grandpa would listen to it together, and it just reminds me of him,” McAtee said.
Sophomore Lola Trent is also an avid listener of folk music. Her parents introduced her to the music in the car, and her love for the music has grown from there.
“I was in eighth grade when I first heard Tyler Childers and Zach Bryan. My parents would play it in the car all the time, and at first, I didn’t love it, but now I listen to it all the time. I love it,” Trent said.
Trent has grown to love certain Tyler Childers songs.
“My favorite song is “Shake the Frost,” specifically the live version. I just relate to the lyrics, and I just like the way the song sounds,” Trent said.
Junior Sophia Rygiel grew up on Folk music and has a special place in her heart for Tyler Childers.
“My mom always played it for me and I always just grew up listening to it. I have grown to love it,” Rygiel said.
Rygiel has a particular song that she has grown to love, Tyler Childers, “Lady May” is her favorite.
“It’s my favorite because I like the melodies and I like the lyrics and the way he sings,” Rygiel said.
