The boys wrestling team sent three athletes to Regionals.
“We had three wrestlers advance to Regionals – Jackson Frahm (126 weight class), Keegan Murray (138 weight class) and Jordan Jewell (144 weight class). Unfortunately, all wrestlers lost in their first round and did not advance. We are proud of our wrestlers that advanced to Regionals and their hard work and dedication this season. Our entire team grew as competitors this year, and we are excited to continue to see them improve and compete at a high level in the years to come,” Coach Ross Powell said.
Regional contenders are looking forward to improving even more next season.
“Unfortunately, I did not advance past the first round of Regionals, but I gave it my best, and I am very excited to see my outcome for next year and to see how much I can improve during the off season to get ready for next season,” Murray said.
Many wrestlers exceeded expectations and impressed their teammates as well as themselves.
“My expectations this season was to have a winning record and a successful season. I’ve only improved and gotten better throughout this season. Unfortunately, I didn’t wrestle for Regionals this year, but I’m excited to see how far I go next year,” sophomore Jefferson Delmonte said.
The athletes credited everyone with improving.
“Middle school was when I decided to join wrestling, and because of the organization and how close I’ve become with teammates, I decided to continue the sport. That was one of the best decisions of my life. It’s amazing to see how everyone has gotten even better this year, and it’s even better to have so many teammates that encourage each other and push me to be the best wrestler that I can be,” freshman Elijah Hawkins said.
Freshman Brayden Bray explained that challenging practices made the difference for him this season.
“The expectation for this year was to have noticeable improvements from the beginning of the year. We had a lot of difficult practices to help improve our move making. A majority of the team has definitely improved from the beginning to where we are now, and we will keepworking to be better than ever before,” Bray said. “Even though there were many times where we could have taken practices a little more seriously, I’m proud of myself and my teammates for how far we’ve come as a team and as individuals.”
