Supercross is one of the most exciting and nerve-racking events in the world; the adrenaline the riders get is what drives them.
Monster Energy’s AMA Supercross event took place in Indianapolis this weekend on March 8 at Lucas Oil Stadium. The event consisted of the world’s best two-wheel racers who compete year-round to earn a spot in the World Championship event. The World Championship will take place on May 10 in Anaheim, California, at Angel Stadium.
“I will be at the event this Saturday with my dad and sister. I am very excited to watch this as I have been the past three years when it has been in Indianapolis. I look forward to attending this event each year, and I hope they continue coming to Indy,” junior A.J. Higgins said.
The sport is exciting and dangerous at the same time. The riders could be doing very well at one moment and be in first place. Then in an instance, they could wreck or be taken out by another driver. These drivers risk their lives every time they enter the track. But they put on a show and do it for the fans as this is what drives most to do what they do.
“My favorite part about the sport is the adrenaline that it gives everyone and even me watching it. I love the excitement of the close finishes and the crashes that happen sometimes. Although the crashes are scary, they still make the sport fun,” Higgins said.
Many riders are in the event this weekend, including names like Noah Viney, Gavin Towers, Eli Tomac and Haiden Deegan. These riders have trained to get to this point, so the weekend was a good show.
“My favorite riders are Eli Tomac and Haiden Deegan. I’ve been watching these two and the sport for about five years now. It has turned out to be one of my favorite sports to watch. Anytime it is on TV or in town, I am going to watch it or attend the event,” Higgins said.
Fans can purchase merchandise and get souvenirs from the events.
“My favorite part about attending the event is getting new merchandise every year and getting the chance to meet my favorite riders. Hopefully this year, I get to meet Haiden Deegan, who I have not gotten a chance to meet,” Higgins said.
