The smell of coffee fills the hallway as kids walk into school.
GHS students may no longer have to be tardy for morning coffee runs starting next year.
“We hope to have the cafe open in the morning from 7:00-7:30 a.m. and then possibly during PowerHour as well,” junior Eliana Anderson said.
The cafe will have a variety of choices.
“We will for sure be selling coffees, lattes, and teas, but the idea of baked goods is still up in the air,” Anderson said.
Proceeds will go towards something needed.
“We are going to use the money to fund our DECA dues, trips to SCDC (State Career
Development Conference), ICDC (International Career Development Conference), Power Trips and overall other Deca activities,” Anderson said.
The DECA team and staff will learn skills.
“We will be running the cafe ourselves, and those people include me, Colin Quill, Eliana Anderson and Brianna Miller. We occasionally, at the start, will need some assistance by staff to help operate the cafe,” junior Sophia Rygiel said.
Ideas originate from wants until they turn into something else.
“Our advisor has been hoping to implement a coffee shop since she arrived, but our coffee shop is a DECA competition called SBE (School-based enterprise) where we had to create a good or a service to show our skills on business fundamentals. The competition part is us being able to present the business plan for the coffee shop in front of a judge, and the top 10 projects get awarded with either the retail operations or food operations certificate,” junior Nistha Miyani said.
