With every sport, there is always a preparation phase that is the most important process of the season.
Junior Braden Chase, who has played golf for the team every year of high school, has climbed through the ranks of the team through preparation.
“We are preparing for the season by having off-season practice during the winter so we can get back into the feel of golf again. Since it’s too cold now to play on the course, we as a team go to the range and work on getting back to where we were last season and hopefully better as a player,” Chase said.
Players all have personal and team goals, especially senior Davis Arthur.
“My personal goal this season is to see how much I’ve improved in my golf game, whether that is score-wise or in my mentality that goes into golfing because I can get upset with the sport pretty easily. But personally, I know I have gotten better with my mentality,” Arthur said. “And considering that it is my last season of competitive golf, I want to be able to enjoy it instead of focusing too much on myself. And as a team, we plan to make it out of Sectionals.”
Every player in their respective sport has a favorite part about their sport. This is what fuels their fire, and this is relative in golf.
“Being able to interact with fun teammates that make the game of golf more enjoyable is one of my favorite parts of the sport. Whether it’s with teammates new to golf and helping them in the sport or old teammates I have been around for years,” Arthur said.
The veterans on the team work to help their teammates and new member freshman Colin Burdine.
“I am looking forward to meeting new people who share the same passion I do and competing with them in golf. I want to grow with them as a team to compete to be an addition on the team,” Burdine said.
The intensive training and competition can lead to rivalry.
“The most anticipated game I am looking forward to is playing against Center Grove. We lost to them last year in Sectionals, and I know the team is looking forward to this match,” Arthur
Sophomore Kalen Rowland, who is No. 1 on the team and 4th in County last year, is ready for the season.
“We start practicing in March, and our first match of the season is at the Edinburgh Golf Invitational which is on April 5th,” Rowland said. “I’ve prepared myself for a great season, and I’m sure the rest of the team has as well.”
