In the heart of Indianapolis, celebrities, vendors, and fans will all meet to celebrate one common community… Comic books. GHS students who are fans of the genres of superheroes, anime, and comics will conjoin to celebrate their shared interests on Mar. 14-16.
According to the Indiana Comic Convention website, Comic Con is a world-class pop culture phenomenon that brings the best in entertainment to the Northeast, with Celebrity Guest Panels, Autograph signings, Photo ops, gaming competitions, Cosplay Contests, a large vendor, and a shopping experience.
At comic conventions, many video game voice actors are present, and for fans, it is a surreal moment to meet the person behind the voice.
“Some of the things I would be most excited for is meeting the voice actors who are there. I play a lot of video games, and it would be cool to see all the people who give those games life,” senior Anderson Mull said.
Students and faculty are fans of comic books, and one faculty member who is a fan of the genre is a history teacher, Mr. Trey Graft.
“I love comics and shows, and the writers and actors are usually what drives me into going to convention,” mr. Graft said.
While large comic producers such as Marvel may not be present this year, it does not stop fans from hoping an employee of the company may be present.
“I hope Hugh Jackman is there. Wolverine is my favorite superhero, and I love every movie he is in, but chances are he won’t be there, which is a little disappointing,” Mull said.
Every comic fan has a favorite comic book, and Mr. Graft is no different, with his favorite being in the hit Amazon Prime show.
“My favorite comic is ‘Invincible.’ I like the story and how long it is, but I know there will be nothing at the comic convention, which is disappointing,” he said.
For many fans, there is one driving person, comic, or announcement that makes the convention all worth it.
“I believe Rainn Wilson is supposed to be there this year, and I love the office, so he is probably the biggest reason I would end up going,” mr. Graft said
Some students who have been to the convention may not be able to attend this year but vouch for the overall experience.
“I can’t go this year, but I went a couple of years ago, and I loved it. Meeting all the people at the convention, both other fans and the creators of some comics, was awesome,” senior Ben Chrisner said.
