The New York Times games are a series of games, including Wordle, The Mini, Strands, Connections, Tiles, and many more.
NYT offers an app where people can play the games as well, available on iOS and Android. Whether students are bored or looking for a brain stimulant in the morning, the NYT games are perfect.
“I like to play the New York Times games during class when we have downtime. They always kill time, making my classes go by faster. And they are new every day so the games are never boring,” sophomore Everett Nickolaus said.
Sophomore Zak Ahmed said that Strands is the best of the games.
“I like the Strands game the most. It is the most entertaining and complicated to me. I like how it is complicated because it helps my brain fire up and prepare myself for other classes,” Ahmed said.
Strands is the most common pick.
“Strands is my favorite game. I like strands because it is complicated, but not to the point where it is boring and stupid. It is the right amount of complication and fun. If I play the NYT games, I always start with Strands,” Nickolaus said.
Senior Mackenna Martin said Connections was the best of the games.
“I like Connections the most because it has always been the most fun for me to play. I like the subjects they choose and the way they find synonyms for each subject. I also enjoy playing the games with my friends from time to time,” Martin said.
Wordle, the pioneer of the NYT games, was another favorite picked by freshman Malaney Mayhew.
“Wordle is my favorite of the games. I typically play it every day. It is usually the only one I play because when I have tried the others, I did not like them. They were boring and confusing,” Mayhew said.
Martin said the opposite of Mayhew when it comes to Wordle.
“My least favorite game is Wordle because it is boring. Too many people play it and it is overhyped, making it my least favorite of the games,” Martin said.
Ahmed said the opposite about another NYT game called Tiles
“Tiles is, by far, the worst game of all the NYT games. It is the worst because it is the hardest to learn, it is very confusing, and it is not fun to play,” Ahmed said.
Mayhew started playing the games because of her mom.
“My mom plays Wordle every day, and sometimes I would help her, which got me into the game. Ever since I helped her, I love playing Wordle every day,” Mayhew said.
Nickolaus likes to play these games in the morning.
“The games do pretty well at firing up my brain and getting me ready to think and solve problems throughout the day. They are very intellectually stimulating for me. I always feel more productive when I play the games in the morning,” Nickolaus said.
Martin prefers to play the games when she is bored and has free time.
“I usually play games when I am bored and do not have anything else to do. During class is the usual time I find myself bored, playing the NYT games. Sometimes I will play during PowerHour with my friends,”
