The Lady Woodmen are stepping up to the plate against the Southport Cardinals on Monday hoping to beat them 10-0, like last year.
“We beat Southport last year 10-2 with a really good offense and strong hitting. I believe we can get another win against Southport this year as long as we go into the game with the same strong and confident mindset and we keep having solid defense and consistent good at bats,” junior Brianna Miller, center fielder, said.
Players are excited for this year’s game.
“We will work to better what we had faults in last year and will go into the game against Southport with a positive attitude and play the best we can, while still focusing on improving our defense and letting our pitcher trust their infield,” junior Zaire Gillis, outfielder, said.
Athletes explained they have made major improvements to their skills and their team chemistry. That chemistry helped them with a loss to Speedway.
“Our first game was okay, but it could have been better. We went into the game with a good mindset and confidence, but we definitely had a disadvantage due to not enough preparation because of the cold weather,” Miller said.
Every game is a new opportunity to learn.
“Our first game was a huge learning experience and taught us a lot of what we need to improve on and get better at. Games like this are very important and essential,” Gillis said.
Some people take a loss as a discouragement, but the Lady Woodmen do not see it that way.
“I joined softball my freshman year and ended up making the team, and since then, they’ve taught me so much and I’ve improved a lot. I am very excited for our game against Southport. I believe in this team,” sophomore Melisa Tefenlili, outfielder, said.
