With the 2025 school year coming to a close, end of the year chaos ensues; however, Senior Week brings excitement.
A recently added tradition to GHS, Senior Week is a week-long event at the end of the school year, and is a time for seniors to enjoy the end of their high school careers.
“Senior Week was something that I wanted to bring to Greenwood to give the seniors something special at the end of the year. We have done it for two years now, and all of the kids loved it,” Mr. Micheal Gasaway, principal, said.
Senior Week kicks off May 19, with a week packed full of activities for the seniors to participate in.
“We have posted the information all over the school, so seniors need to be aware of what is happening so they do not miss out on anything during the week, especially since there are days that seniors are required to attend,” Mrs. Lisa Laug, guidance director, said.
Seniors are required to attend the Senior Panoramic, Honors Day Program, Senior Walk, Commencement practice, and Commencement. However, the Senior Sunrise Breakfast and Senior Field Day are optional events that students are encouraged to be part of.
“Just enjoy the week. These past two years for the Senior Sunrise Breakfast, we had three-fourths of the senior class come out, and they were just all together. It was such an amazing thing to see, so I would encourage everyone to come out and have fun and just enjoy this last week,” Mr. Gasaway said.
On May 20, the Senior Panoramic begins at 8:00 a.m., and students are required to bring their cap and gown for their panoramic photo. The Honors Day Program will follow at 9:30 a.m., and the day will end with the Senior Walk to each elementary school and the middle school, starting at 11:20 a.m. Each of these are required events.
“I think the Senior Walk is one of my favorite things we do. We go to each of the elementary schools and then the middle school, and all of the younger kids get a chance to see the seniors. Even if students did not go to those schools when they were younger, it is still such a good opportunity, and all of the kids enjoy it,” Mr. Gasaway said.
The Senior Sunrise Breakfast will be the first event on Thursday, May 22, where students will meet at 6:30 a.m. Commencement practice is the only required event of the day, and begins at 8:00 a.m. After Commencement practice, students will head outside for their Senior Field Day.
“I think I am most excited about all the fun activities we are going to do, especially the Senior Field Day. It is going to be so much fun, and it will be a chance for me to feel like a little kid again,” senior Joelle Young said.
Senior Week is a time to make memories before seniors move into the next chapter of their lives.
“Once this year is over, all the seniors will be moving on into this next chapter. I just encourage everyone, no matter what they are doing after high school, whether it is college, going into the workforce, or even traveling, just to take that risk and do not wait to do what you want to do,” Mr. Gasaway said.
