It is that time of year when seniors are scrambling to finish school on a high note and end with a great impression by hosting fun graduation parties.
Graduation parties, or open houses, are usually the last big event seniors have to leave a mark on their peers and teachers. However lately, with the rise of social media and constant trends, it is challenging to make parties stand out, and anxiety often creeps in due to the fear of hosting a boring party. Also, some seniors may plan their parties alone, meaning they need affordable food options and entertainment. I will give some affordable, innovative ideas that seniors can implement for the best graduation parties to represent the graduating Class of 2025.
My first proposal would be creating a game about the grads throughout their high school careers. Questions could include questions about hobbies, bands, artists, or general facts they were, or are, obsessed with but outgrew. The game could be Jeopardy style or simply have a host reading off the questions, and for the best effect, the questions should be funny or slightly embarrassing. To conclude the game, there could be a prize, like a paper crown.
An idea that could contribute to the theme of a grad party is having future college-themed desserts or foods. Not everyone invited may know where the grad is going to college, so having decorated cookies or a cake with the school colors or design would be a fun surprise or way of hard-launching the grad’s future school. These could be DIY’d easily, too, if they got a pack of cookie dough, baked the cookies, got some icing, and colored it the school colors. This would be a unique way to make a party stand out. Cookies could be turned into a fun activity where guests decorate them.
Another fun activity would be having a karaoke session. Gather people around to sing their favorite songs or even perform a silly little serenade to the grad. Make the activity into a contest to see who impresses the grad the most. It would not take a whole karaoke machine, just a TV or computer and maybe a small speaker to ensure the music is loud enough. This could also be an activity that allows guests to get to know each other if there are many people from different parts of the grad’s life who may not know each other.
My last idea is very niche, but if grads want to have parties outside of the norms, they could make their parties themed based on their future major. For example, for someone wanting to major in meteorology, they could have a “future forecast” station where guests could write down their predictions or wishes for the grad.
There are many ways to throw a fun graduation party that doesn’t have to be super stressful, especially because seniors are preparing for a very stressful change in their lives.
