As the baseball season swings into full gear, the Greenwood Baseball team is trying to better the team while also trying to improve themselves.

For most players on the baseball team, it is not their first year in the sport. Playing baseball from a young age is a leading cause for a student to join the team. Parents get their kids involved early, and so a lot of them fall in love with the sport.
“I joined the team because I’ve played baseball ever since I was a little kid. I loved playing back then and I love playing now. I knew it would be a good learning experience and also I get to play with my friends,” Freshman Griffin Kroll said.
Even though the JV team’s record is seven wins and six losses, team members still have positive feelings about the season. They are not having the best season ever; however, the record does not put a damper on Freshman Dylan Kauble’s mindset.
“The season is going great, we had a tough start, but throughout the season we have come together as a team and we have improved tremendously,” Kauble said.
Sophomore Ian Grismore, who is on the baseball team, wasn’t as positive on the season that most would think.
“The season has been going alright. I’m doing good personally, but the team isn’t doing as great as I wish it was,” Grismore said.
Baseball is not all about practice and games. Every player has fun on and off the field. Spending time with teammates and friends is always a good time.
“My favorite part about baseball is the team dinners. It boosts team chemistry and fuels us up for our next game,” Junior Blayne Reitmeyer said.
Baseball season produces a lot of good and bad memories. Beating another while being the underdog is an amazing experience.
“My favorite moment on the team is when we came back to Southport, the reason why it is my favorite moment was because we showed that whenever we started to hit the ball and work together we can be a really good team,” Kauble said.
Winning against one of the best teams in the league is also a huge accomplishment. Winning against a good opponent can really give a good feeling.
“Our win against Mooresville is one of my favorite moments in baseball. We knew they were a tough competitor to beat in recent years, but we played really well and won four to two,” Kroll said.
