Senior year is full of memories and opportunities, and the seniors are expecting a lot.
Seniors should have high expectations, according to senior Gillian Semmler. Student Council has a lot planned for the seniors.
“I think this year is going to be a lot of fun. We have a lot of events planned for the seniors, which will make the year go by quickly and give us stuff to reminisce on in the future,” Semmler said. “I’m really looking forward to Senior Week and the Senior Sunset we have planned.”
Seniors can also expect fun from other events, such as Homecoming and PowderPuff. Semmler said that every senior should try to attend.
“I’m definitely excited for Homecoming, considering it’s only our third year doing it, and I’m excited to go with my underclassman friends. I’m also really excited for PowderPuff; it is one of the funniest nights of the year, and now that we’re seniors, we will actually take it seriously. And this year we are seniors, so we’ll win,” Semmler said. “Prom will be fun like last year; hanging out with your friends, getting ready, and taking photos is always really fun.”
Many seniors hope their senior year will be much more relaxed than their junior year. Senior Thomas Satterfield expects that his senior year will be easier.
Satterfield said, “Senior year is definitely easier; there are no history readings and no AP English. You can also do the Senior Capstone over the summer, which can make the year a breeze.”
Many seniors should still expect a challenge this year. Satterfield also expects a real challenge from all college-level courses.
“Academically, I think this year will be challenging because I’m taking all honors or dual credit classes, and I think that it will be challenging to balance everything,” Satterfield said.
Many seniors hope that their last season of sports will get them playing varsity and enjoying their final seasons. Senior Mani Naraini is one of these ambitious senior athletes.
“I’m hoping to get that No.1 singles spot or varsity. I also think it will be a lot of fun playing with the team,” Naraini said.
For many seniors, applying and thinking about college can be pretty stressful. Their decision will affect where they will be spending many years of their lives. But some seniors, like Satterfield, have already made plans and have started their college search.
“I am filling out my Common Application, mostly for Indiana colleges, but if I am looking out-of-state and thinking about prestigious colleges, maybe MIT,” Satterfield said.
Senior year is the last step of high school and when adult and working lives are just beginning. Semmler is hoping that everyone can get the life they want in college or in a trade.
“I just hope everyone has a good year, and we can all get our classes done and all end up in a school, a trade, or in a position we want. Remember the good times in high school,” Semmler said.
Senior year can be a tough time, but also a fun time. Semmler hopes that all seniors will have a fun year and make it through to graduation.
“I hope that senior year will be fun for everyone. I know that senioritis will kick in, and it will get hard, but I hope that everyone will make it through, walk across the stage, and graduate,” Semmler said.
