With football season now in full swing, student section leaders and upperclassmen are prepared to lead during Friday Night Lights.
School spirit is high when students show up to games and sit in the student section. Sitting in the Woodmen’s student section is a privilege, and everyone should show respect and courtesy to everyone else.
“The biggest thing our student section always lacks is the lower classmen being quiet and talking amongst themselves rather than cheering and being loud with the rest of the student section. It is also a big problem when lower classmen leave without picking up after themselves, leaving a bad look for the rest of us Woodmen,” senior Aiden Walton, student section leader, said.
Along with respecting the space, dressing for themes is another important way to show school pride.
“I think it’s important to follow the themes because it shows you want to support the team by coming out, dressing up, and cheering them on. Dressing up represents school spirit by showing our athletic director and in our high school staff that we have fun with the theme, so they keep letting us do them,” sophomore Hank Mosemann said.
Most upperclassmen go all-out for themes with face paint, glitter, and random accessories.
“Out of all the things we have, I think my favorite would be the USA theme. I like to wear my jorts with a red or blue T-shirt with paint on my face and the shirt. I like to shop usually at Target or Hollister for all my clothing for themes,” senior Pedro Orozco said.
The student section is a fun way to socialize on a Friday night, especially since all GHS students get in free. It is also important to the football players that people come to support them.
“ I think it’s important to show up because it shows the football players they have people to play for, so that they can have a fun time while doing the sport that they love. Also, it’s just a great time in the student section, everyone needs to be there,” Mosemann said.
Social media accounts led by students let other students know when and where games are and the themes.
“If you want all of the entertainment and updates on how to dress for a theme or where/when a game is, follow ‘gwoodwoodmen26’ and ‘barstoolgreenwood’ on Instagram,” Walton said.
