Raising Canes Chicken Fingers is coming to Greenwood, but for the time being, is the drive worth it?
Raising Canes is a fast food restaurant that opened its first location in Louisian. Since 1996, Canes have rapidly gained popularity, most known for their chicken fingers. Currently, the closest Canes is in Avon. While the drive took approximately 40 minutes, it is worth the time and gas spent. The Canes menu is limited compared to other chicken places like Zaxby’s or KFC, but other fast food chains simply do not compare.
Canes offers four meals. The meals include three, four, or six chicken tenders, fries, Texas toast, coleslaw, and their famous Canes sauce. I got the box combo with four tenders but substituted an extra piece of toast for coleslaw. I went with my boyfriend Jacob; he ordered the same four piece chicken tender meal and substituted extra toast for coleslaw. The food came out almost immediately, and while it was quick, they forgot one of my tenders so I had to wait for them to make me another one. This experience was abnormal; typically Canes is very good about making sure everything is correct. Besides missing a tender, the time felt short and like there was no wait at all. By the time we had filled our drinks, they were calling our names to pick up our food.
The restaurant was a clean, open seating area with seating options ranging from booths, tables, high top tables, and a patio. We chose a two person booth and sat down to enjoy our food. The restaurant is decorated with items from the area the Canes is located. For example, the Avon location had decorations for Indiana and also Brownsburg and Avon schools. The Bloomington location has all IU decorations because it is on campus. One of the most favorite decorations include the disco balls hung up in the middle of the restaurant for all to see.
We began to eat and had no complaints about the food at all; it was fresh and most importantly tasted great. We agreed that the chicken tenders were the best when dipped in Canes sauce. The Canes sauce tastes almost like ketchup, mayo, and a little ranch dressing mixed together. If stores began to sell bottles of Canes sauce, they would fly off the shelves. The Texas toast came in second on our ranking; it was soft while also crispy but not hard. Lastly, the fries were average and compared to Culver’s fries without the salt. They were still fresh but a little soft and not as crispy as I personally prefer. We did not rank the coleslaw because neither of us ordered it and we do not like it anyway.
For two of us to get a box combo, it cost roughly $27. I feel as if that is kind of expensive, but the food is always great, and we do not get it very often due to the distance. But on US 31, there will be a Raising Canes opening up across from First Watch and next to Starbucks. Because the drive will be shorter, the price might feel more justified because Woodmen will not have to spend money on gas as well.
Overall, Raising Canes is delicious. We look forward to a closer location, though. As of right now, it is worth the drive.
