As the leaves change colors and the air turns cool, autumn’s presence becomes more apparent. Autumn signals the start of the season for outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking, and even haunted houses.
Hiking and exploring nature is a popular excursion especially during fall. People are drawn to the vibrant leaves and cool temperatures of the changing season.
“I don’t usually go outside during the fall, but I went to Clifty Falls with a couple of my friends and really enjoyed it. We hiked all the way down the creek and then saw two of the waterfalls. After that, we went to a pizza place in Columbus,” junior Hasan Tefinilili said. “It was called Zwanzigz. Columbus is a college town so it was family owned. We had the lasagna pizza and split the $30 bill three ways, I would definitely recommend it”
Hasan has always enjoyed being outside, but has recently started taking trips to parks all across Indiana.
“Usually when I’m outside, I just ride my bike or take walks, but this year I’m planning to go on at least two more trips before winter. Later this year, we’re going to go to Marengo Cave, which should be fun, and the Indiana Dunes National Park,” Tefinilili said. “We’re going there because it’s around an hour drive so it’s close enough. I’ve never been or seen any of these places, and I think I’d enjoy it.”
Biking is another activity that is popular in the summer and the fall. Freshman Abram likes biking around his neighborhood and to Westside Park.
“I bike to my friends house to hangout with them after school. In the fall, I enjoy the leaves and how the sunsets get earlier each night throughout the season. I also bike to Westside Park sometimes because I live close. The trees up against the creek leaves change a lot of different colors,” freshman Abram Nickolaus said. “I like that it’s cooler in the fall. I don’t get as hot and sweaty on my way to my friend’s house, and I think it’s more enjoyable overall,” Nickolaus said.
Another activity that peaks in popularity in the fall is haunted houses.
“I like to go to haunted houses because it’s a fun way to hangout with friends without having to go to someone’s house every time,” junior Isabella Davis said. “I go to haunted houses starting from the end of September all the way to Halloween. How often I go depends on if my friends are busy or not. I usually go to Hanna Haunted Acres because I don’t want to get grabbed by the workers at somewhere like Nightmare on Edgewood,”
