Procrastination seems to be a common theme among high school students, and finding a Halloween costume is something often left to the last minute.
Some common last-minute stops for costumes are all over Greenwood. The typical trip is to Spirit Halloween, a local thrift store, or a friend’s closet.
“One easy place to find a quick costume is Spirit Halloween. I would also thrift at Plato’s Closet to find something easy and cheap. If all else fails, I would ask a friend,” junior Melisa Tefenlili said.
Another easy option students have used is Amazon. However, shipping has been unreliable in the past.
“I buy a lot of my costumes on Amazon. Sometimes, the shipping can be a problem. One year, I ordered my costume in advance, but it came a day before Halloween. Most years, I go as an inflatable, which is easy,” junior Isabella Davis said.
A costume does not always have to be made with clothes. Items around the house can be used to make a creative costume.
“One easy costume is a Harley Quinn. All you need is a red lipstick and a blue outfit. You can easily use a plain black top and black shorts to make a costume. Makeup is another thing that can be used to make an entire costume; you could also pair things with hats. A cowboy hat, or any other kind,” Tefenlili said.
Costume inspiration can be found anywhere. Friends, family, or the internet. Last minute costumes can sometimes be the best ones.
“I asked my mom to pick something up one year at the last minute, and she returned with a Patrick Star costume, which I did not wear that year, but I did wear it the next year. This costume was definitely a crowd favorite. Some other items in my closet that I have used for a costume are monochromatic outfits. I usually look on Pinterest for ideas,” junior Biaktha Khun said.
