The marching band will perform at the Zionsville band invitational tomorrow.
Students, parents, and staff are delighted to watch the show the band has to offer.
“There will be 20 groups total performing from 20 different schools in different classes of school sizes and band sizes, so it is a pretty big event,” Mr. Joel Matthews, band director, said.
This year’s show will offer shimmering lights and bright performers.
“The theme this year is Amongst the Shimmering Lights. We are going to have some cool LED lights on the fields, and a lot of the music references stars and starlight,” he said.
The band has been perfecting their show for four and a half months.
“We started working on the music originally back in May, and we worked through the summer months. There is a lot of rehearsal time that has gone into this, and that’s how we’ve been preparing our show. Spending three weeks here at school and in band camp mode, we have been rehearsing after school three to four days each week starting once the school year started, including some Saturday practices.”
Mr. Matthews hopes for a year as successful as their previous invitationals.
“Last year, we were the State runner-up, and we are looking forward to a successful year this year,” he said. “The people who attend the invitational can expect to see a lot of variety, and they can certainly expect to be entertained with 20 different band shows. There are going to see a lot of different students working really hard to make some excellent music.”
Sophomore Lucas Crouch, who plays the maroon bow in the pit, has attended numerous invitationals.
“I have attended all of them throughout the years,” he said. “I know I have helped with three of them before. I am attending [the invitational], we are performing this year so I have to go.”
Senior Jenna Martin has been in band for seven years and has attended countless invitationals.
“I started in sixth grade, 7th year of my fourth year in marching band,” she said. “I have attended so many invitationals, like too many to count because we do quite a few every year. This will be my fourth year.”
Throughout her years in the band, Martin has been a part of many sections.
“I started out on trombone, but right now I’m playing marching baritone, marching band, concert band, and pep band. I play trombone, winter production, and the cymbal,” she said.
Band students anticipate the adrenaline rush after the performance and the awards following.
“I think that band students will look forward to the adrenaline rush of performing, and then there is always a fun part of hanging out with your friends. We are all pretty close, I like to think,” Martin said. “I think the adrenaline rush and the results, not always the results.”
