The varsity boy wrestlers are eager to start their season.
Senior Jackson Frahm is confident.
“This year’s lineup will have mostly the same people. I definitely think all around we have improved our skills to wrestle better as a team. I think we will win a lot more duels this year. We have a lot of returning kids and freshmen with experience. Our biggest rival is Plainfield. We lost to them two years ago, but we beat them twice last year. We plan on being known for our aggressive wrestling style and our strong mindset,” Jackson said.
Senior Keagan Murray also has high hopes for this season.
“We have a lot of newer kids this year that are coming from the middle school so it’s going to be an interesting line-up compared to last year. I have some high hopes for the upcoming season because I have the goal of reaching it to State and possibly winning. Even though we do not wrestle them one on one, I would say our biggest rival is Plainfield. Our coaches plan on starting the season fast and getting all of the new kids up to date as to what it’s like coming into a high school room where there is more competition,” Keagan said.
Coach Ross Powell is confident in the team and has high expectations for the season.
“The team is growing. We are continuing to grow in numbers, which is going to help us be more competitive over time. This is a really great group this year. They know how to have fun, but they are also learning how to get serious and work hard. Last year we doubled our team wins from the year prior, from four duel matches won up to eight. We plan to win even more this year,” Powell said.
