Four years ago, they had just started their freshman year and had plenty of time left. Now, graduation is approaching, and the Class of 2026 will be moving on to new experiences. Although they are graduating, the memories they made in the last four years will stick with them forever.
“My favorite memory from high school was going to Washington, DC with my friends for Power Trip. We got to hang out and meet new people there from DECA. We got to meet the people in voting sessions where we were voting delegates. We got to vote for new positions in DECA,” senior Adelyn Burcham said.
Wrestling was an important part of senior Pedro Orozco’s life.
“My favorite memory from high-school is my Senior Night of wrestling. I had a tough matchup and was able to win in front of my family and friends,” Orozco said.
Friday Night Lights created some of the best memories.
“My favorite memory from high school was our first football game against Seymour this past year. I had just moved here from Center Grove to be with my friends. Since it was our first game, everyone was hype, and we won that game,” senior Collin Beaton said.
New environments did not have to be scary, they could have been fun and exciting.
“Freshman year was the best because everything was so new and fun. We had just come from middle school, and this was a whole new world to us with a new environment. Nothing was stressful yet. Our work was easy, and life was just so laid back,” Burcham said.
Growing up brought new opportunities and a sense of freedom.
“Junior year is probably one of the most exciting years of my life. I had just got my license, and it felt amazing to be free and hang out with my friends whenever I wanted. Instead of having to ask around for rides to hang out with my friends or simply go get food, I could go do all of these things whenever I wanted,” Orozco said.
Being around childhood friends was always a fun time.
“Senior year was definitely the best because I got to be around all the kids I grew up with when I transferred back to Greenwood. I moved in middle school and got to come back for senior year. It was the best decision,” Beaton said.
Trying new events was fun but could have gone wrong.
“An unforgettable moment was freshman year when I tried a new event in Track. I tried hurdles, and I broke my arm from trying them for the first time. My freshman year I wanted to try a bunch of new events so I could improve as the years went on. I never did hurdles again after that day,” Burcham said.
Being seen as a leader in his sport humbled Orozco.
“An unforgettable moment in high school would definitely be when I was nominated one of three captains of the wrestling team. It felt good for my hard work to be recognized,” Orozco said.
The most interesting and shocking moments could have made the best memories.
“An unforgettable memory was when we did PowderPuff and all the senior boy cheerleaders had put girls’ underwear on and revealed it in our routine. I will never forget everyone’s faces,” Beaton said.
Activities that made students feel like children again brought them together.
“The best trend was Needohs. They are still so popular, and it is so much fun to be with friends in class and look at what everyone has found in stores or online. It gives me little memories from elementary school when we used to play with squishies or slime,” Burcham said.
School spirit also brought students together.
“The best trends in high school were our spirit weeks. It was cool to see everybody come together to celebrate our school and then sometimes have a pep rally after. I always love the pep rallies because I love watching all the events and seeing who will win the axe,” Orozco said.
