The flowers were in full bloom painting the course in pink and red, but beneath the beauty of the colors, there was intensity of competition.
The Mooresville Invitational is coming up tomorrow as junior Kalen Rowland, No.1 golfer, prepares for the challenge.
“It is so important to us because it gives us a good measure of what we need to work on so that we can be ready for County and Sectionals,” Rowland said. “I believe we have a good shot to win this tournament. We have not played our best so far this year, but we have every intention to bounce back.”
Although the Mooresville Invitational is a time to compete, it is also a time for improvement for long-term goals.
“I have had a goal all season to go to State because I lost in a playoff hole to go to State last year,” Rowland said.
Although Rowland might be ranked No.1, everybody has off days so this is why sophomore Colin Burdine stepping up has been so important to the team.
“I think the Mooresville Invitational is important to the team because it is an 18 hole match, and it can be good for kids to get better with consistency, ” Burdine said. “One of my goals for the Mooresville Invitational is to shoot a 81 and to work on more consistency for the rest of the year.”
There is no way to guess what might happen during the tournament, but the players have their idea of it.
“Some goals for the team would be to place Top 5 and for some of the kids on the team to place in the Top 10,” Burdine said.
The team is being led by senior and captain Braden Chase, and he hopes to have a good last ride at the tournament.
“It is important to us to help us build confidence in ourselves and make us more prepared for sectionals,” Chase said. “My personal goal is for my swing to feel good and to shoot in the mid 70s which could give me a shot to place in the Top 3.”
Although every tournament is important, Sectionals is the main focus for this team as it is coming up fast.
“Our team goal is to make sure all of our swings feel nice to get ready for Sectionals,” Chase said.
