Off-season practices, in season weight training, and pre-game preparation. These are the moments before the moment that makes magic possible. That is no different for the Woodmen.
In the 2025-26, school year Greenwood has seen many incredible moments across all seasons and types of sports. Boys basketball’s post season run, boys soccer finally defeating their rival, and girls volleyball career milestones have defined an unforgettable year for Greenwood.
Since the hiring of head coach Dan Priscu before the 2022 season, the boys soccer program has seen a serious uptick in performance. In 2024, the Woodmen made it to the Sectional championship, and in 2025 they finished second in the Mid-State conference as well as earning their first victory against long-time rival Perry Meridian.
“We just worked hard during the pre-season because we had high expectations. We went into the game thinking we were the better team. We were also really motivated to win and scored early on to gain momentum from the start,” junior Oscar Sahm said of the team’s new mentality against Perry.
Boys soccer was not the only team that found success in the 2025-26 school year. The boys basketball team that featured a tenured lineup with two seniors and three juniors in the starting lineup was able to beat Shelbyville for a spot in the Sectional championship and avenge their loss earlier in the season.
“I think we really improved on the defensive end, we really locked in for sectionals on the defensive end and really focused on our scouting reports. We did a much better job of shutting down what the other teams wanted to do on offense,” junior Owen King said of how the team was able to learn from their loss early in the season to the Golden Bears.
Not only were they able to bounce back from their earlier loss to Shelbyville, but they used momentum gained from their first round victory against Rushville.
“We had a great game vs Rushville, and we hit a lot of shots to get the confidence going. It also helped due to Shelbyville getting the bye and having to have a longer time off than us. We were prepared to play them and got off to a great start which helped us win that game,” King said.
This year was not only full of team success, but it also included massive individual accolades. Mainly upperclassmen play varsity, but to reach career milestones starting as a freshman or sophomore on varsity plays a large part in making it possible. That is no different for senior Addie Rosebrock, who reached 1,000 career assists for the girls volleyball team.
“It made it really exciting because I had 999 assists the week before Senior Night and everyone was really excited. My coach even pulled me the game before so I could get to 1,000 on Senior Night like I did,” Rosebrock said.
Rosebrock may have been a sophomore on varsity, but 1,000 career assists was not something that she had in mind from the start.
“I didn’t think I would make it to 1k because all of the people I saw reaching 1k were a lot better than me. At the end of my junior year, I only had 400 so making it to 1k was difficult,” Rosebrock said.
