There is a big discussion about how old is too old to trick or treat, and to be honest, it just is not that simple.
The common trick-or-treater would not usually be older than the age of 13 or 14 years old, but there are a lot of people who are a little bit older, and there are some people who are way older than that who still go out trick-or-treating. This is not unusual, but in some people’s eyes, it just is not right, and they just can not understand it.
There are a lot of reasons that going trick or treating while being older is not as crazy as if teens did it without a reason at all. Some people have younger siblings who they take out trick-or-treating. This is a great bonding experience for these siblings in a society where we communicate mainly through our phones and technology. If older siblings go trick-or-treating with siblings, they are also giving their parents a little bit of a break on a holiday where parents used to have to follow their kids around the whole night for safety purposes. Even just going with their younger siblings trick-or-treating can show them that they are there for them, because usually, younger siblings look up to their older brothers and sisters.
Even though a lot of people say that it is weird to trick or treat when teens get older, some people might do it just to hang out with their friends. This can be a fun night for friends just to walk around and interact with people. Some friend groups do not even go trick-or-treating; they just walk around and enjoy the night that brings back so many memories for them.
Going trick-or-treating when older also depends on the neighborhood that someone is in. In some neighborhoods, trick or treating as an older person might be frowned upon, but in most places, as long as people are respectful and appropriate, they will have no problem with teens trick or treating in their neighborhoods. It is also important to be dressed for the occasion. Some people who take Halloween seriously might take it the wrong way if teens are not in costume.
With all that being said, it is different for everybody on whether it is weird to trick or treat as someone gets older, and this childhood tradition quickly fades away in someone’s life.
