There are nail salons all over Greenwood and surrounding cities. Each is different in their own way, but some have more benefits than others.
I have been to many salons like Sun Nails, Orchid, TK Nails, T.E.N. Nails, and Sarah’s Nails. Out of all of them, my personal favorite for a pedicure is Sun Nails on Emerson Ave and Stop 11. For only $50, students get an entire spa pedicure with gel polish. $50 sounds like a lot, but compared to other salons, like Orchid Nails, $50 is a reasonable price. If students go to get their nails done but do not want gel, it is typically $15-$25 cheaper, but that is because regular polish lasts nowhere near as long as gel. Personally, I always have a pedicure; this is because if I get one every month, my nails are always painted because the gel lasts.
Manicures are probably more popular. I personally do not like going to salons to get my finger nails done. This is for many reasons: I do not like having straight gel polish on my fingertips, and I do not like acrylic nails. I prefer Gel X, and I cannot find a salon that does Gel X nails for a reasonable price. For these reasons, it is easier to go to an in-house nail tech. My nail tech, Greenwood graduate Liv Glenn, does my nails in her room at a desk and can do any color, design, and shape that I ask for, all for a very reasonable price. Because I do not have my nails done often, when I do get them done, I am always impressed with the results. Unlike in store nail salons, if students do not like their nails, oftentimes they are too shy to speak up about it so it leaves them with a pricey bill and nails they do not like.
Just like clothes, nails change with the season. Freshman Taylor Doolin offers nail services to friends, family, and other Greenwood students. The services include polish, gel, and Gel-x nails.
“When I do fall nails, they are typically darker colors like brown. Some really popular designs right now are polka dots as well,” freshman Taylor Doolin said.
My personal favorite nails to get when I do get a set is an almond set. I do not typically get designs, but when I do it is almost always french tips. My favorite colors to get are dark red, white, and I have recently liked dark brown because it makes me look more tan. These colors are growing more popular as the weather begins to change.
As students begin to get their nails done more frequently, they should consider how it is affecting their nails. My personal favorite nails to have are gel x because they do not seem to hurt my nails as bad as acrylic nails but stay longer than normal polish. I also like gel x because it is not my real nail and I can alter the shape and length of my nails with nail extensions.
Whichever kind of nail student prefers, there are tons of different styles, colors, designs, etc that students can choose from. There is no incorrect answer for creativity.
