A student slips on his letterman jacket. While putting it on, he looks in the mirror and admires all of his achievements. The jacket shows all of their favorite high school memories.
Depending on the size and add-ons, the prices can range from $185-$283. Most Woodmen buy them at Sports Plus.
“The marching band has surrounded my whole life as my family has a rich history with music. I helped the band by moving props from fifth to seventh grade as well as marching in the winter percussion season in seventh grade. I’ve been in the marching band since eighth grade participating in winter percussion seasons as well, so five years in total,” junior Noah Aylsworth said.
Senior Paige Glynn is into athletics and the journalism program.
“I have 2 tennis chevrons, 1 soccer chevron, 1 basketball chevron, and 1 journalism patch,” Glynn said.
Junior Jonathan Chelf has some impressive band awards and patches on his letterman jacket.
“On my letterman jacket I have two state runner up patches and four State finalist patches. I started choir in fourth grade and am now in Jade, our advanced chamber chorus. I feel very accomplished to be a part of Jade,” Chelf said.
Others are into athletic achievements.
“I have earned two chevrons in volleyball, one in track, and one in basketball. I also have a patch for the back of my jacket for a volleyball showcase,” sophomore Maddison Judge said.
Aylsworth is involved in the marching band and has won many awards to show off.
“The awards on my letterman include state finalists 2021-25, State runner-up 2023 and 2024, BOA Super Regionals 2023-25, as well as the Hollywood Christmas parade which I performed in my 8th grade year,” Aylsworth said.
“I am the photo coordinator for the newspaper and my favorite thing to take is action shots for basketball. I got my journalism patch my junior year which was my first year on staff. When looking at my letterman jacket, the patches show memories and my favorite one is definitely journalism because of not only the staff but the things that I am able to do because of it,” Glynn said.
Judge spends most of her time practicing to improve on the sports she loves.
“I have been working on throwing since fourth grade. I didn’t really get into volleyball until seventh grade, and I almost decided not to play that year. I’m glad I chose to stick with it because I really loved it and was invited to play club for the first time in eighth grade. Now, I am on the varsity team, and I enjoy my time with all the girls and playing at games,” Judge said.
Letterman’s can also show core memories of their achievements for students.
“My favorite memory from what’s on my letterman is the State runner-up patches as they represent the byproduct of two outstanding seasons in which we put on the best show we could,” Aylsworth said.
Chelf’s letterman jacket has shown all of his favorite moments in the marching band, choir, and theatre.
“My most memorable patches and favorite are my show patches for theater. Looking at them brings back great memories and shows my accomplishments,” Chelf said.
