Celebrating the big game at a good Super Bowl party is the key to enjoying the game.
Prepping for a party is the most important step. One experienced party planner, Mrs. Andi Campbell, throws a Super Bowl party every year.
“Our setup consists of the items we got from Mr. Campbell’s days of being a football coach. I have lots of serving trays that are football themed, so I use a lot of those and just kind of set up some extra chairs around the TV. Plus, we also have an extra TV, so there’s one on both sides of our basement for people to have better views,” Mrs. Campbell said.
Another key aspect of throwing a successful Super Bowl party is the snacks. Some people look forward to the snacks all year, and sometimes the only reason they show up. Junior Kaden Wilking looks forward to eating good every Super Bowl.
“We always have a neighborhood block party. The best part is definitely the food. We usually have walking tacos and wings. There are lots of wings, the best wings I’ve ever had. We typically eat and watch the game in a theater room in our house with multiple TVs. There isn’t usually a ton of people there; it usually consists of 10 or 12 people,” Wilking said.
When preparing for big crowds, meal preparation becomes even more important.
“We usually make appetizer type foods. I’ll make a couple more substantial appetizers, like wings or meatballs, and then we usually asks all our guests to bring some other type of appetizer or dessert as well. The amount of people depends year to year for the Campbells. Personally, the year the Bengals were in the Super Bowl, it was a very, very crowded and exciting. Most years, I would say probably around 30 people,” Mrs. Campbell said.
Watching the Super Bowl may not always be everyone’s favorite activity. A way to include more people is to set up the halftime show.
“We always turn up the volume for the halftime show,” Mrs. Campbell said.
This allows people who do not care for football to enjoy a good party.
“I love watching the Super Bowl half time show. I look forward to watching it every year. My favorite performance was probably Shakira or Bruno Mars,” sophomore Gaby Anderson said.
Along with the football game, many people host their own games. Board games are a common time killer at Super Bowl parties for sophomore Kylie Sommers.
“The best part would probably be the anticipation. A lot of times we play fun games before. The people make it entertaining. We play a lot of games like Catchphrase, Telestrations, those party type games. We’re not huge card game people. We play Scategories and all those family games,” Sommers said.
