School spirit has filled the halls of GHS for decades. Why wait to participate?
Spirit days, decorative hallways, and pep rallies have existed forever, and not just at GHS. Other schools in our area go above and beyond for spirit days. It is clear to see that the majority of our school population does not participate these days.
Timberlines believes that too many students feel as if they are “too cool” for school spirit. It is arguable that dressing up in themes and cheering on our Woodmen is simply too embarrassing for some. But, high school only lasts four short years and students should take advantage of these fun times without caring what people think. If more people were to participate, no one would feel embarrassed because everyone would be in the same situation. Instead of debating about dressing up or participating, just have fun and enjoy high school culture while it is available.
As time passes in high school, burn out happens. Coming into freshman year, everyone is excited and full of anticipation for what high school will bring. During pep rallies in recent years, the freshman class has been on their feet, cheering, and participating. If classes continued to show that school spirit all the way through high school, it could create a better overall experience for everyone.
School spirit should make school fun and benefit students. The more that students participate, the better experience they will have in high school.
