The NFL season has finally blown its last whistle as the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Patriots to become national champions.
This year’s Super Bowl was an important game for the NFL culture because of the rematch between Super Bowl rivals: the Seahawks and the Patriots.
“I remember when the Seahawks lost to the Patriots in 2015 at Super Bowl XLIX. That was one of the first Super Bowls I remember as a kid, especially when the Seahawks chose to throw the ball at the goal line. I’m just happy that the Seahawks got their revenge 11 years later,” sophomore Colin Burdine said.
On the otherside of the game, there are plenty of salty Patriots fans who did not get their seventh Super Bowl title.
“I was so mad by the end of the game. The offense was terrible, and to be honest, we looked like scrubs when we played. Our offensive line played one of their worst games ever, but do not worry, we’ll be here next year,” junior James Hurley said.
People have different opinions on the halftime show, but for the most part, it was received well.
“I liked the setting of the halftime show. I think it was very interesting and how they were able to bring out all types of people. I liked the music even though it was hard to understand. The fact that those people in the halftime show genuinely had their wedding there was insanely interesting as well,” junior Sofia Torres said.
Losing in embarassing fashion in the Super Bowl is usually frowned upon by regular viewers to the point where it becomes comedy for some.
“I thought it was funny that the Patriots lost in the fashion that they did. They were supposed to have one of the hottest offenses in the league, but the fact that they barely scored was laughable. Drake Maye was an MVP finalist but barely performed in the game and was sacked six times,” junior Evan Foutz said.
But for some people, this game did not mean much. Even though it was the Super Bowl, some did not care who won because they did not care about the teams.
“I watched some of the game, but to be honest, this was one of the few Super Bowls that I just did not care too much to watch fully. These teams I did not know very well, and it did not feel like I was watching a Super Bowl. It just felt like a regular football game,” freshman Nala King said.
