The most recent renovation was a weight room transformation. This took awhile, but I think athletes can agree that it was needed. Now, GHS has one of the nicest weight rooms in the state.
What will they renovate next?
A renovation that is being talked about a lot is renovation to the bathrooms. Students never know what they are going to find when they walk into the bathrooms. The bathrooms have the bare minimum due to fixtures constantly being destroyed. One thing that has been requested a lot is more mirrors and repaired toilets that do not leak. A deep clean to get rid of the white crud line along walls and toilets would help, too.
One renovation that should be next is the advancement of our auxiliary gym. Even though they just repainted the back wall, the auxiliary gym is hanging on by a thread as there are wooden backboards on four of the six basketball goals. There are also broken nets on five of the goals, which can affect play and does not look good to visitors. The main goal is barely hanging on as well with a crack in the rim. Players are just hoping that if they dunk the ball the rim does not snap in half. This really shows a lack of pride that we have as a school and a program that is not valued as much as some of the others. The floors could also use a waxing to increase play, and decrease the risk of injury.
A renovation that probably makes the most sense is a renovation to the locker banks. What I mean by renovation in this case is to remove them. We have gotten to the point where students do not even use the lockers. Since now all of them bring backpacks, there is no need for them anymore. This brings up the question, what is the point of having them? At this point, they are just there with no one using them; they have become a huge waste of space. They could renovate them into a learning commons type area for students to go during PowerHour, especially the ones right next to the main office, which would look nice to visitors, too. Students only go there to talk during the passing period anyway so we might as well make it a nicer looking area.
One renovation that would affect most of the students in the school is the renovation of the locker rooms. Every sport does not have their own locker room, and the existing locker rooms are outdated. The showers are in the back of the locker rooms, but the only team that has used the showers in the last few years is the football team, which makes me believe that we should get rid of the showers in all the locker rooms except for the football locker room. This would allow us to make the locker rooms bigger and make it so students have more room when they are changing.
Another renovation the school could make involves the science labs. The science labs remind me a lot of how the weight room was. It has what we need, but if we want to give students the best equipment to be successful, then there could be improvements. I feel like the equipment in the science labs are worn out and probably ready for replacement. The main problem is that our labs are not getting students ready for college labs, which gives other students from other schools the advantage.
One last area due for a renovation in my opinion is the cafeteria. The cafeteria itself is not bad, but the attention it gets is the problem. Some schools order pizza and other types of food to sell. This would give the students something to be excited about and additional options for lunch. Another way they could renovate the cafeteria is by switching up the options. We seem to have the same food served on certain days of the week. It would be nice to give students a variety and more of an option. Although this is not a building renovation, this still matters as much as the rest.
As I look at all of the areas we could renovate, it makes me wonder what will actually happen next and what will be only a dream from students.
