The Class of 2026 will soon be moving on. Before this happens, there are senior activities to close out the year.
Senior Assassin
Senior Assassin follows Spring Break and is organized by seniors and not endorsed by the administration. The activity uses an app called Splashin. There are weekly targets for each two-player team to get out with water guns. If a player gets out, they can buy back into the game only a certain number of times. If players do not get their weekly target or get shot, they are out. The team/player that wins gets all of the prize money at the end. Students who participate must wear floaties or goggles to be resistant from being eliminated. Purges will occur where these items do not count and anyone can get out.
Senior Sunset
This year, seniors wanted to do Senior Sunrise at the beginning of the year when the class gathered for breakfast on the football field, so at the end of the year, they will enjoy Senior Sunset. The cookout will involve teachers and administrators grilling for seniors on the football field as the sunsets. After the sunset, the senior sleepover will follow that night.
Senior Sleepover
In the band parking lot, the seniors will stay the night either in tents or in their cars. Based on the weather, there will be plenty of activities. Cornhole is always a must, but Class President Gillian Semmler said she has a fun game in mind that includes water.
Spirit Week
Senior Spirit Week will have themes each day. This takes place before their finals along with a farewell Pep Rally. One popular tradition involves seniors riding their bikes to school as if they were kindergarteners.
Senior Prank
We cannot forget about the senior prank. The senior prank is a prank that the entire senior class decides on. The prank has to be cleared by the principal, though.
Field Day
During Spirit Week, there is Senior Field Day with activities for teams. Think of Field Day as Field Day from elementary school with different activities and games.
Honors Day
Honors Day is a formal event that seniors attend to get recognized for academic and athletic achievements. They will get awards that teachers and administrators have decided they deserve and they will get recognition for the work they have put in the past four years. During the event, they will also announce the scholarships that the students have received.
Class Photo
The senior class photo will be taken on Honors Day. Orders are due on May 13.
Senior Walk
At the end of all senior activities is graduation. Before graduation, seniors will have the walk where they walk through all of the elementary schools, middle school, and high school.
There is a lot of time and effort that goes into planning the senior activities.
“To plan any event takes lots of time and preparation. First, we have to get an idea of what we want to happen at this event or what the event is about. For example, Senior Sunrise we wanted to invite all the seniors to the football stadium, have breakfast, and watch the sunrise as a class. After we decided all of that, we picked dates and locations. Once we figure those out, we go to Mr. Gasaway and others to get the approval. As soon as we have the green light, we begin advertising for the activity,” Gillan Semmler senior class president said.
Semmler is excited for the upcoming senior activities.
“I’m personally looking forward to the senior prank as well as senior assassin. I think we have some great ideas in mind for a prank that won’t harm anyone but will be very fun so I’m excited to see how those turn out,” Semmler said.
Planning does not just involve the people who are in charge. They have to get opinions from the senior class on what will be the best choice in certain activities.
“To prepare for senior activities, I’m talking to my peers and figuring out what we want as a class. After that, I’m going to go through the process of planning the activity and then having it,” Semmler said.
