The first lick of ice cream on a hot summer day is not just sweet; it is a time machine for kids who grew up going to Mrs Curls.
The location of Mrs Curls is another reason why it is so popular throughout the Greenwood community and why people have so many memories from their childhood there.
“I used to always go there after Little League games with my friends and, sometimes, my team. Even if we weren’t playing, we would go get ice cream and bring it back to the diamonds for a little bit just to chill,” junior Victor Molina said.
As time goes on, some people change their orders, but some still go with the one they would always get as a kid.
“I still get the same thing that I got when I was a kid. I just get a chocolate cone, Even though it is basic, it is still very flavorful and reminds me of the good times, Molina said.
Although it has been so long, Mrs Curls still holds up for some people.
“It still hits the same for me because I still go there with my friends so it is not very different from the past. I do miss going there with my team, though,” Molina said.
Others have as good of memories with family.
“Me and my family used to always go, and we would eat ice cream near the creek. It would always be nice to just spend time with my family for a while,” sophomore Brysen Baxter said.
Just because it has been so long since most people’s best memories does not mean they need to switch their orders.
“My order is still the same. It is good because it has chocolate and cookie dough which is my favorite type of ice cream, ” Baxter said.
Although people can still get the same type of ice cream, sometimes it just will not feel the same as it did in the past.
“It does not really resonate with me the same as it did in the past because since my siblings are not around as much anymore I do not really get that same feeling of the whole family being together,” Baxter said.
Even though a lot of people’s memories are from their childhoods, that is not the case for everyone.
“My favorite memory from Mrs Curls is when me and my friends had to do a project for my honors chemistry class and we went there to do it together. We ate some ice cream and did our work while having a good time,” senior Jake Galbraith said.
Switching up orders can be nice.
“My order has changed a lot over the years, and recently I find myself just getting the vanilla and chocolate cone,” Galbraith said.
