Everyone loves a fun, exotic drink or simply just an element of excitement, and with this new addition to Greenwood, there is no doubt that Dutch Bros will be all the rave.
About 15-20 minutes away, the newest Dutch Bros recently opened in Indianapolis off of Emerson; the restaurant leads into downtown Indy. Another fun drink place added to Greenwood has consumers excited.
I tried the “Dutch faves” menu along with juniors Addy Rogers, Adriana Crabtree, Mia Shaffer and sophomores Maddie Bethel and Izzy Higareda. We tasted the Golden Eagle Chai, the Carmelizer, the Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Latte, the Rebel, and the Double Rainbro. These drinks were all incredibly delicious, and I was definitely impressed. However, there were several downsides to Dutch Bros, including the price, the location, and the alarmingly high amount of sugar.
Dutch Bros speciality drinks can reach high prices; however, nothing more outrageous compared to other speciality drinks at competing stores like Starbucks or 7 Brew. Seasonal drinks can be up to $8, depending on the size, but more moderate drinks like a classic coffee, mocha, or latte are closer to $3-$4. Compared to Starbucks, prices are similar.
The drive to Dutch Bros, depending on typical commutes, can be a little long. Ranging from 15-25 minutes from the high school, Dutch Bros is slightly further than the local Dunkin, Starbucks, or 7 Brew. Despite the drive, the wait time was very little. We went around 6 p.m. on a Friday night, and we used the order ahead option. The drive-through line was moving quickly, and all of our drinks- ordered 10 minutes prior to our arrival- were ready for us at the pickup window.
The arguably most significant downside to Dutch Bro’s drinks is the whopping amount of sugar. The medium Double Rainbro Rebel sits at 58 grams of sugar, which is nothing compared to a medium Golden Eagle Chai with 76 grams of sugar. The drink with the highest sugar content is the Christmas special, the Holly Jolly Rebel with 109 grams of sugar in a medium drink.
Overall, Dutch Bros was a delicious sweet treat that cannot quite be classified as a breakfast drink, but it was definitely worth trying. I will be making a return to get the delicious Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Latte and to try new drinks.
