Although the clinic’s nursing staff has changed, the culture has remained the same.

At the end of the 2023 school year, Nurse Josh stepped down from his role as to pursue a more advanced role as a nurse practitioner. Nurse Josh brought a family-friendly culture to the clinic.

“It was tough losing nurse Josh, but obviously when people are upset about it; it means that he left a big impact. He was very relational and close with the students and staff. He was fun to talk to and the personality that Greenwood wants on our staff,” Principal Michael Gasaway said.

GHS is a close-knit community; and having good relationships between students and staff is very important to the culture of the school. To new nurse, Ms. Leah Breen, helping people is incredibly important.

“Coming into the job, I already knew the feel of Greenwood, and I liked it. I had a great experience when I worked at Southwest Elementary School.  I’ve always been someone who wants to help other people and I have always loved kids,” she said.

To Mrs. Libby Cruzan, head corporation nurse, communication is vital to keeping all students happy and healthy, and Ms. Breen has those skills.

“Communication between me and the nursing staff, our nursing team, those we serve, so the students, our families, and our staff members is everything. It is vital that we are able to have open lines of communication in order to get desired results and it is important that we are able to communicate effectively,” she said.

To the athletic trainer, Mr. Liz Cruze, communication between her and the nurses office is a must.

“Leah has been super kind since she joined the staff. It has always been important for me that there be communication between the nurse’s office and the training offices, and since Leah has joined staff, we have been able to communicate very well,” Mrs. Cruze said.
