Oklahoma graces auditorium stage

Oklahoma+graces+auditorium+stage

Going into the spotlight of this year’s spring musical.

“I liked this musical a lot. It had a lot more character building than anything else I have ever been in. It was a lot more of a dance heavy show, Which I enjoyed a lot,” junior Madi Williams who played in the ensemble, said.

The director of the play, Mrs. Hayes described the plot.

Oklahoma is a complex show. It’s about people who don’t get along and how they all overcome that. In the show, there’s a cowboy and a woman who start out hating each other but then fall in love with each other which turns into a love triangle. There are a lot of fighting scenes and singing and dancing. I picked this play because I really wanted the kids just to have fun,” Mrs.Hayes said.

Learning lines for a play can be difficult.

“Mrs.Hayes taught me a really good technique on remembering my lines.I say one line at a time for 45 seconds over and over and then I add another line until I can memorize the whole part and I just put it all together from there.Learning the lines is definitely the most boring part of of being in a play, but once you memorize them you feel very accomplished,” freshman  Logan Authur, who played curly said.

Being in a musical is a lot different than being in a play, as Williams explained.

“Obviously, there’s a lot more singing and dancing while being in a musical. It also has a lot more character building than anything else I have ever performed in. It’s a very dance heavy show. We have been practicing our choreography a lot and learning all the songs. It’s a much longer process,” Williams said.

Some people have favorite parts

“My favorite part of being in a musical is all the singing and dancing we do and all the costumes and being around all of my friends. It is a lot of fun,” Harold Dragstrem who played esenmble said.

Authur talked about his favorite parts.

“When I’m on the stage acting and singing, it just makes me feel like I’m in a different place. It’s like an escape from reality. I enjoyed myself a lot up there,” Authur, who played Curly, said.

Mrs.Hayes shared on why she loves directing plays.

“I enjoy directing plays because I get to see how all different people come together and create something so wonderful and I love seeing kids do something that they all enjoy doing whether it’s makeup,or being a member of stage crew, acting, singing, or dancing together,” Mrs.Hayes said.

A special guest graced the stage during the performances.

“We had a fun addition to the show. We had a teacher cameo in the show. This year’s special guest was Jerrod Watson. He showed up two times in the musical,” Mrs.Hayes said.
