Mental Health Club sparks interest in students

Ever since COVID-19, Mental health has become a prominent problem. All genders and age groups experience this universal issue, a new club will address it.

“I heard about the Mental Health Club from Mrs. Fenner, she had reached out and asked if anyone wanted to be a leader, and I thought it would be a great opportunity,” junior Val Moreno said.

Mental Health Club is not a traditional club at most schools, but GHS staff and students are trying to spread awareness about this topic.

“We started this club to mainly spread awareness and to show people that they are not alone and can get the help they need.” Moreno said.

The club includes all genders. Senior Jackson Simms talks about how this club could make a big impact.

Mental health is really important to me because I struggled a lot last year. Then, I noticed a lot of other people struggling, and I wanted to help,” Simms said.

People might wonder what this club consists of. Moreno gave an inside look into what exactly it entails.

“We have only had one meeting so far, but we all came up with some ideas. We want to have a bunch of activities going on so students can enjoy their time there. We also are going to do a tailgate in the future, just not sure when yet,” Moreno said.

Along with fun activities and events, the Mental Health Club will meet during school. This will help students become aware of the club and be able to attend it.

“Our club is called ‘Bring a Change to Mind’ and we will meet every Friday during first Power Hour in either room C225 or the guidance office,” Mrs. Tanya Fenner, counselor said

The Mental  Health Club could make a prominent impact on students and their mental health. Simms talks about their goals and aspirations for this club.

“Our goal is just to create a safe space, and let students know that everyone is welcome, no matter who you are. We just want to create a positive environment,” said Simms.
