Bru Burger, a new restaurant in Greenwood, has stunned burger enthusiasts. The restaurant has already built a reputation as a go-to spot for gourmet burgers. However, I was not overly impressed with the actual meal.
To begin the review, I went with a couple of friends to the restaurant to get the full experience of the restaurant. Bru Burger is located on Stones Crossing, close to 135. It is nestled close to the new location of Stone Creek, and the two restaurants even share the same parking lot.
The architecture and look of the restaurant is similar to a modernized version of a bar room. There were tables and booths as well as an actual bar area. The look and appeal were on point, and I thought that the design of the restaurant added to the enjoyment of the meal.
The food followed in the footsteps of the design. I ordered from the chef’s burger menu and decided on the burger patty melt. This burger was two smashed patties with caramelized onions. It was topped with American cheese and Fontana sauce on sourdough bread. I also ordered a large side of fries and tomato jam.
I thought that the patty melt tasted a lot like a Philly cheese steak. This was the only highlight of the meal. I also ordered the Bru Burger, which was the main burger choice at the restaurant. Immediately, the waitress asked if I wanted to switch out the taleggio cheese for a different kind of cheese. Apparently, it was common that the taleggio cheese was disliked by most customers at Bru Burger and was more of an acquired taste. This rubbed me the wrong way and made me feel like the burger was not going to be that great, which it was not.
The Bru Burger did not surprise me much and was not outstanding like I thought it would be, since it was the signature dish at the restaurant. The taleggio cheese was not terrible, and I enjoyed it. On the other hand, the patty melt I also ordered was something that would make me want to return to Bru Burger.
The worst part about the meal, however, was the fries. I am very particular when it comes to fries, and the fries here were below par. They were not salted enough and seasoned lightly. The fries also did not come out warm and tasted bland. The tomato jam it came with was also mediocre. My friends had the same overall impression of the Bru Burger. One of my friends ordered a chicken burger with a burger patty and chicken. He was also not impressed with the burger and followed with the same thoughts on the fries being bland.
Overall, I was not overly impressed with the restaurant, but I would recommend other burger lovers to at least give it a try.
