Clash Royale has emerged as one of the kings of mobile games, averaging nearly 50 million players during October. Many GHS students play, and the game has attracted new players and influenced former players to return.
The game has evolved, bringing constant seasonal updates that change the strength of cards and mix up the game.
“I usually use a 3.0 Xbow deck. I enjoy this deck because despite all of the changes made to the game, it’s been extremely viable for a long time, I even achieved the maximum trophies back in 2018 with it,” junior JN Burlaos said. “I like this deck because it’s very strategic. You need to control the pace of the game to make the Xbow effective. It’s a slow-paced deck, but when you can land an Xbow on your opponent’s tower, it’s extremely satisfying. I also love the strategy that goes along with it.”
Streamers and influencers have been picking up the game and creating content that encourages viewers to play.
“I mainly came back to the game because of Jynxzi. He’s a big streamer who plays Clash Royale and makes interesting content surrounding the game that encouraged me to get back on the game. The updated trophy system has made me play more these last few weeks. They increased the trophy maximum to 15,000, and over the last two weeks, I’ve gone from 7,000 to 10,000, which is insane progression,” Burlaos said.
The game can be enjoyed many different ways, and new players often play casual game modes, such as triple draft or friendly matches with friends.
“I mainly play with my friends during PowerHour when I’m bored, I like the game mode where you choose new cards every game. I got into the game because I saw everyone else playing and wanted to see what all the hype was about,” junior Isabella Davis said.
Clash Royale is a game pulling in the casual as well as the competitive player. Different game modes offer fun experiences for every player.
“I play for a casual experience whenever I’m bored of other games on my phone. I always play with my friends because playing alone isn’t fun for me. I would say it’s worth the hype, and it’s fun to have good cards,” Davis said.
Clash Royale’s fresh feel is due to constant reworks and new cards.
“When the game adds new cards, it makes the game more interesting. When a card is introduced, it’s purposefully overpowered so people will use it, and later it is changed to be more fair. It’s fun to take advantage of the new cards and try out their gimmicks. I got back into the game recently because more of my friends are playing it,” sophomore Kaiden Cruse said.
