As Spring arrives and blossoms, the shelves become filled with a flavorful array of Peeps. Squishy insides with a sugar coating are a classic spring treat.
The marshmallow treat has evolved and brought all sorts of interesting flavors. On the first spring Friday, we sampled four unique flavors. They were Dr. Pepper, Frosted Strawberry Poptart, Rice Krispy, and Sour Watermelon. Our group reviewed the Peeps ranging from “gagging” to “wanting seconds”.
The first Peep we tried was Dr. Pepper. The dark burgundy, sticky marshmallow was not liked among any of us in the group. The after-taste was spicy, leading some of us to spit it out, while the rest of us fought through the flavor.
The second Peep was Frosted Strawberry Poptart. This pink marshmallow covered in sprinkles, was more liked than the Dr. Pepper peep. As we bit into the peep, we saw a pink filling which was unlike the others. We tasted strawberries, which was very similar to an actual Poptart. Though this Peep was better, some of us still disliked it and refused to eat the rest.
The third Peep we tried was Rice Krispy. This Peep looked very similar to an actual marshmallow and tasted just like a rice crispy. This was our group’s favorite by far.
The final Peep we tried was Sour Watermelon. This bright green, flavorful Peep was a top hit in our group. As we bit into it, it revealed a bright pink color, resembling the watermelon theme. Our mouths filled with both a sweet and sour flavor, leading us to crave more.
Overall, we enjoyed trying new Peep flavors, whether they tasted favorable or unpleasant.
