The Woodmen tennis team has had a fantastic season so far and are ready to impress at sectionals.

Even though the Woodmen have a tough Sectional lineup, they believe that they can represent GHS well.

“Going into Sectionals, I feel pretty confident that we can do well. It will be difficult to win with all of the good teams we are facing like Center Grove, but we definitely have a shot,” junior Carter Chatham, 2 singles, said.

The student athletes are using last year’s early exit in Sectionals as fuel for this year’s match.

“Last year we lost in the first round to Whiteland. We are all upset about it and know we have to do better this year,” Chatham said.

The Woodmen lineup is very different compared to last season, which could help them perform better.

“We lost 4 great senior varsity players from last season but I really think that has brought us closer as a team and that we have played better because of that,” junior Seth McCauley, JV singles, said.

The tennis team has lots of confidence due to the effort they have put in to get better.

“This season has been great so far. We have worked really hard all season, and our effort is starting to show. We’ve won most of our matches up to this point and have made many memories along the way. My favorite memory so far is listening to music with the team on the bus before our away games. It gets everybody hyped up for our match and it’s a really fun experience to be a part of,” Chatham said.

The seniors have provided many great memories for everybody else on the team and have made the season much more memorable.

“I have had lots of amazing memories this year but my favorite has to be the seniors always making practice so fun and enjoyable,” McCauley said.
