Students Work to Make Halloween a Haunting Season

Ghosts, skeletons, and witches are now out and ready for this season of scare and freight and there is no place better to find this than haunted houses and trails.

Students are getting involved in these fun holiday events as they join the workforce to help create the best haunted experiences for everyone.

“I have worked on Sweetwater Haunted Trail for the past three years. This is something my family all does together, and it is really fun to dress up with family and friends to scare people when they walk by,” senior Brendan Bailey said.

These haunted attractions are enjoyable, but the work that goes into elaborate houses and trails often goes unnoticed.

“The owners of Manlove Park start putting up decorations a few months in advance, and the volunteers can come and dress up to help scare the people who come. In the past year, I was a hostage in a camper for their haunted forest,” senior Lance Reed said.

One of the biggest and most popular haunted houses in Indiana is Nightmare on Edgewood, and senior Amy Lutrell has been a part of this for the past few years.

“For the past five years, I have worked as a concession stand worker at Nightmare on Edgewood. My favorite part is the environment because it is very fun and it is very funny to see people get so scared,” Lutrell said.

Haunted houses and trails have been a great tradition for some students and their families, and this is a huge part of the fall season.

“My family have been working at Manlove Park for many years because we camp at the campgrounds there with family,” Reed said.

Haunted trails are undoubtedly fun, but they can also be a great way to gain revenue to give back to the community.

“One of the best parts about the Sweetwater Haunted Trails is that it is put on by Sweetwater fire department and it is a very charitable event. This is a very fun way to get money to help them,” Bailey said.
