Heading into the off-season with the boys’ first ever winning season and girls coming off another winning season, both teams are in hot pursuit to start up practices and get back to the sport they love.

Junior Kenna Martin, a defender on the girls soccer team, hopes for a great season and more.

“My biggest goals are to make it to Sectional Finals this year and cut down the total goals scored against us from last year’s stats,” Kenna said, “My personal goals are to have a great senior season and keep each team we play to two or less goals as a defender.”

She works to improve her skills for each season.

“We work on basics at training that I go to once a week. Also every week, I go to club practice two days a week to work on my footwork. I have games every weekend which keeps us playing year round and improving my skills every week,” she said.

Freshman Jose Moreno plays for the boys soccer team and is currently training with the team. He is seen as one of the hardest working players on the team and started in games as a freshman last year. He plays many positions as well.

“I play striker and left wing for the team,” he said, “One of the goals that I have for next season is that we win over 10 games this season. Another goal that I have is that I will score more goals this season than I did last season.”

Junior Ava Griffin, defender for the girls soccer team, hopes to be the best teammate she can be.

“I have great communication skills with my teammates, and I’m good at taking criticism. I also have good leadership skills on and off the field and want to help my teammates as much as I can,” she said.

She explained what she does to prepare for a new season and how she can become a better teammate.

She said, “I do a lot of conditioning with my teammates for the past year because last year we were not in the best shape. We are also going to do more foot skills so we can get better about being confident with the ball on our feet or knowing how to use both of our feet to dribble and pass.”

Freshman Braden Reynolds plays for the boys soccer team and he recently started playing.

“I play goalie for the team. I was able to get into games throughout the season and earned a varsity letter for playing,” he said, “I also can play other positions like winger.”

He has been working hard in the off-season. Boys practices have started up recently so they can prepare for the summer.

“I have been training hard and mainly been working on my jumping ability and my reflexes. I have also been working on my hand eye coordination and lateral movement so I can start this year,” he said.
